Bessie

This weeks theme at Funky Junk is rust

So I decided I would introduce you to my lawn ornament

B E S S I E

There was a time  that she actually worked this land

but in her retirement years she is resting comfortably in my front yard

I love her rusty beauty.

Okay, do you think I am crazy for having a broken down tractor with a name as a lawn ornament.

Hope you are not laughing to hard at me

The funny thing is how she got to her resting place

A few years ago when I decided I wanted her my dad and hubby set out to bring her to me,

You see she had breathed her last breath about a mile from my front yard and had stayed there until I

invited her home.

So Dad and Hubby drove the BobCat to her and the truck

They attached her to the BobCat

and my Dad drove backwards (visions of the movie Cars are going through my head) with her attached with

my husband in the truck behind him.

The last strech of the road the tires gave way and were flopping in the air,. it was a very funny sight to see.

Since then she rest comfortably under a shade tree.

Kitchen Island

Hi again, two post in one day, please don't fall over.

While I was writing about my thrifty find I remembered that I had never shared my new Kitchen Island.

I had been wanting one for years but space is very limited and I need it to be small with open shelving and be able to roll around so that I could stick it where ever I was working at the time.

I few weeks ago we went to Ikea and I picked out this FÖRHÖJA

I liked it but it was a little longer than what I wanted and it was $100 which isn't bad if it is what you want but since it wasn't just right I decided to pass.

Thank goodness I did because look what I found when I was out junkin a few days after that.

And do you know how much they wanted for it,
of course you don't but I am going to tell you

$20.00

That is it $20.00

And guess what it was shorter

It had some signs of wear but I didn't care because I knew what I had planned for it.  So I got out my sander. paint. brushes and stain and went to town and this is what I ended up with.

Boy am I ever glad I waited and found this one.

I just love the towel bar on the end, I collect dish towels and this gives me the perfect place to show them off
and maybe use them.

Now I just need to find some kind of baskets to put underneath
But that is for another day.

HOME SWEET HOME

Home Sweet Home, I remember being a kid and loving that saying and it has stuck with me all these years.  As much as I love to go on adventures my favorite place is always my home.
There is alway a sense of peace when I pass through the front door and the comfort of knowing that everything I love most lives in these walls.
So, I sweet talked Hubby into helping make a sign that declares my love of home.

It wasn't hard to make, but somewhere along the way I have lost all the action pictures, except this first one of the letters.  So here's what we did.

Cut beadboard and painted it blue
Made a frame out of trim painted it cream
Glazed both with a brown glaze
Stained the wooden letters
Wood glued the letters on

Easy, peasy

Now the sign hangs over the piano and I have a picture wall planned to go underneath
But...... that is another day.

STRAWBERRY TRIFLE

I thought I would share one of our favorite Summer desserts with you today

STRAWBERRY TRIFLE

Not only is it yummy, but it is super easy to make

Wash and cut two packs (or one large) of starwberries

Sprinkle with sugar (optional, but excellent for strawberries that aren't sweet yet)

Mix 1 large package of instant vanilla pudding with 2 cups of cold milk
(I use fat free pudding and fat free milk)
Let the pudding firm up

Mix in a 16oz container of sourcream
(I use fat free)

mix in a 22oz container of cool whip
(I use fat free)

mix until smooth

cut/break up an angel food cake
(I use store bought, because I am lazy in the Summer)

Layer and Enjoy

I have also used the this recipe with bananas and vanilla waffers, It is an excellent jumping off point to just about any combination you can think of

WHERE HAVE THE LAST 11 YEARS GONE?

This weekend we spent celebrating Big Sister's 11th birthday, and even though it is not her real birthday yet, I still can not believe it has been 11 years since I first held her tiny perfectness in my arms.  She wanted a 4th of July party, so we came to Ellijay to spend the weekend.  She and Little Sister made cupcakes.

Nana and Papa came to her party and she opened some of her presents, the rest will be saved for her real birthday.

After eating cupcakes we headed to downtown and set up to watch the parade.

The parade was very fun and we all loved celebrating our freedom.

After the parade we had 2 hours to pass before fireworks started, so our entertainer, Little Sister, got busy doing what she does best.  We were all a part of her show at one time or another.

And the the grand finale
an excellent fireworks show.

We all had a great day celebrating our Country and our Girl.

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY

I hope enveryone has a wonderful weekend.

We have all kinds of fun planned that I will share next week

Until then I thought I would give you a peek of what has been going on around here.

Wednesday morning this showed up and ripped up half of my front porch, not a fun thing to watch

but Little Sister had to keep her eye on them

This is how it looked at the end of the day

And this was busy in the backyard.

Oh, did I mention that we woke up to a broken hot water heater.

The next morning at 7 am this very large truck showed up.

and started pouring this

She was too nosey to stay in bed

and now we have a very wonderful, very large patio

when we have money again.......

I am going to need you lovelies to help me decorate it.

Of course we had to write names in it.

Can't wait to hear about your weekend
