I know I should be working on Big Sisters (my oldest daughter) room and not worrying about other rooms in the house, but I can't seem to help myself.
It is the addiction that I have, well that and coffee, Diet Coke, chocola.......
anyway back to my problem.
I need you lovelies to give me your opinion
So here is the problem, through out my entire house I have stained trim, windows and doors. It seems very dark. I want to honor the caracter of this house but possibly lighten thing up by painting the trim work cream, I have no plans to paint the doors they are solid wood stain grade doors and I can not paint them, I also do not plan to paint the windows, the trim around them but not them.
Here are some examples of what I hope it would look like.

I know these are not perfect pictures but it is hard to find it done often. So what do you think (BTW we have the dark wood floors through out the entire house also), so I get out the sandpaper and paint brushes?

Cha Cha, you totally should paint the trim. Trust me, you won't regret it one bit. We painted all of our trim and doors on the first floor, with the exception of our front door and side-lites, "Linen White" by Benjamin Moore. We LOVE it. If you look back at the pictures of my foyer, you will see that we left the door alone and painted everything else.
Wow! That's a big job. You are a great sister! I am in total agreement. Will you also paint the chair rail molding? You could do a slightly darker color below it like in the first couple of sample pictures you used. And after that, will you be my sister? Lisa~
I definately would get to painting them! I think it would give you the look you are wanting.. I think it will look great!

I would so paint the trim and I also would paint the windows (I think you will like that look)...leave the doors stained. Happy painting...it will be a lot of work, but worth every minute! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

you & i are so much alike. so funny. your inspiration photos are beautiful. i noticed the stained wood really pops out in those pictures because of the trim & white/cream walls. i've been thinking about getting rid of my yellow walls & painting my walls a white-ish color.
i agree 100% with everyone's comment to paint the trim. i wouldn't paint the windows, however unless you are 100% sure. trim YES!

Yes, I agree, paint the trim. It will look fresh and up to date. You're in for some work :).
if your doors were cheap.. i'd say paint the whole thing. but since yours are so nice.. i agree with the lot, and i'd keep them stained.. but definitely paint the trim! will give you not only updated look.. but will be fresh! i agree with Linda, i'd paint the windows as well.. to continue the update & freshening! :)

Def paint the trim...NOT the door...I'm 50/50 on the windows. You're blessed with such beautiful solid wood in that house:) Happy painting!

I agree with every one paint the trim. Your doors will look even richer with that lovely old patina!
So, I don't know about trim painting and all of that (though I am sure whatever you decide will look amazing) but I was really trying to figure out how that guy in the doorway was part of it all. Maybe he could paint your trim?

Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this. My whole house looks like yours with the dark trim and doors. We had dark windows, but replaced all of them with white vinyl to save $$. I've never seen pictures of white trim with dark doors and pretty much the doors are the only thing holding me back - I don't want to paint them.

This is what I did. I say go for it! It will lighten it up without losing the warmth of the rich chocolate.
