BALL GOWN DRAPES

Let me start out by stating the obvious, I am NOT a professional seamstress.  Anything you see me sew, I have taught myself how.  I don't use patterns when sewing for my home, so it will be mostly simple lines with a few tricks thrown in.

When planning how to decorate My Oldest Daughter's room one of my biggest goals was to make it a room she wouldn't easily grow out of and one that took advantage of the chance to still be very girly.

So we stuck with very classic fabrics (to give it staying power) and added girly touches in the design.  I love the fullness of the bottom fabric, I think it has the look of a ball gown.  The beading on the fringe adds a touch of grown up elegance.

These were actually very simple to make, all straight line sewing.  If anyone is interested I can do a step by step tutorial, just let me know.

How pretty! Love the shimmer on the bottom fabric. I'm about to make curtains myself, but have to teach myself how to use the sewing machine first! Eeek!

well, hello cha cha!

let's see where should i begin...love the drapes. i love what you are calling them even more! you must be a great sewer, because they look really good.
now for the rest of my comment...if you only knew my history with the word "CHA CHA"!!! one of my dearest friends from sooooo long ago, we used to call each other cha cha. we were the best. back then we were single, lived in the same apt building, and i swear we would have decorating parties or DIY crafts several nights of the week together. if you only knew, what we could get ourselves into!!! years have past. she moved to a different part of the country, we don't talk as much as we should. i hold the name, "CHA CHA" very near & dear to my heart! i have such wonderful memories of she & i together. thanks for allowing me to smile & remember them with your name.

happy new year!

What a beautiful job you did on your drapes. I really have trouble sewing drapes and unlike you, I need a pattern for everything I do...even the apron I am giving away on my acid reflux blog.

You don't give yourself enough credit!! Even straight line sewing is a challenge for some of us! These drapes will be great forever and your daughter will not outgrow them...classics and beautiful! Love the trim!

You did one fab job on those drapes. My mother was a seamstress of unbelievable alent. I inherited not one ounce of that talent, but I can manage enough of a straight line to get a few projects completed. So, I appreciate your "challenges." These turned out great, and I love the choices of fabrics. I am a fabric nut! Thanks for sharing your project.

You did a nice job on the drapes. I can't sew well either - straight lines and hand hemming are my specialties. My mother bought me a Singer when I had my first daughter, thinking I would learn to sew and make her dresses. I bet your daughter will enjoy her new curtains.

Very nice! And patterns are highly overrated ;D
They frustrate me and never turn out like the vision in my head does, where as when you wing it- things tend to turn into a creation you can be proud of. Love your idea!

That is great. I have a bare window in my bedroom and I wish you would do mine too. I can't seem to make it a priority right now. Thanks for sharing with Made it Monday! Jules

Hi, I just found your blog tonight and am really enjoying reading your posts. I would love a pattern for your curtains. It is getting about that time that my soon to be 8yo is wanting to do some bigger girl changes to her room. I love your fabric combination!
