Martha, Martha, Martha

I couldn't believe it when I opened my Feb. issue of Martha Stewart and saw these.

I have been decorating with sentimental objects for years.

When Big Sister was born I made this shadow box.  It has the blanket, booties, and bonnet that she came home from the hospital in.   The photo is one of the first ones  we took of her once she was home.

I later added the lock of hair from her first hair cut.  I love having these things all in one place.

When Little Sister came along, I did the same thing for her.

This is the gown my dad and his brother's and sister's came home from the hospital in.  It is also the gown I came home from the hospital in and that I brought both my girls home in.

This lovely was a gift from Sweet Daddy on our honeymoon.

I have a beautiful collection of costume jewelry that was my Grandmother's.  Some of it is on display and other pieces I still wear.

This pretty little purse was my mother's when she was a girl, each of my girls had their 2 year old pictures made with it.

Every time I walk by one of these it brings back sweet memories.  I was so glad when I saw in Martha that other people appreciate art made out of their sentimental treasures.
Do you decorate with your treasures?

Lovely additions to your home. I have three baby dresses worn for christenings in a guest room. I love seeing family pieces around the house. I also have a handbag (not shown). You can see the dresses this week at AtticMag on the tour of my home. The guest room is in tomorrow's post.

Cha Cha, what wonderful and treasured mementos you have and I love the way you have them displayed. It looks like Martha doesn't have anything on you!

What a precious post! I love all of your sweet sentimental things and you've done a very good job at displaying them.
Be a sweetie and Martha has nothing on you!

Oh, what a sweet idea! Do you have them all together on the same wall?

If you had a boy what would you do with his lock of hair? Would you just glue it on without a bow? (I have boys).

Thanks for linking up!

Oh how wonderful! I've been thinking about shadowboxing my Christening Gown for years, but just haven't done it. (My only girl was born too big to wear it! I was teeny she was ummm...not LOL)

I do a lot of decorating with sentimental treasures and pictures. I so love having them out and displayed vs. having them sit in a box.
Love the items you have displayed!

I always wanted to do this...I have the items, but I haven't purchased any frames.

Oh, I love those shadow boxes. I especially like the one of Martha's with the ballet slippers. I want to do that with dd's. I know I was keeping them for some reason. lol

Oh, you have done such a great job... inspiring. Martha wouldn't be doing so well if it weren't for all the other talented folks around her.
Keep up the great ideas.

I have never done this, but am inspired to be on the lookout for ways to do this. Beautiful and meaningful treasures that you shared. Loved them!

That left me a little teary eyed. It makes me want to find something of my children's treasures to frame! They grow up so quickly and it's nice to have reminders of those precious moments. Wonderful idea.

That is just so cute! Apparently you know what you're doing if you beat Martha, so next time when I need a good idea, instead of going to the magazine I'll go to your blog :)

What a beautiful to preserve such treasures. I'm heading to hobby lobby this weekend...think I'll look around at shadow boxes and frames and possibly make a few of these myself. Thanks for the ideas.

You are too smart for me, Cha Cha! I've seen this done, but have never done it. What pleasant memories - who would have thought - the blow dryer!

we decorate with sentimental items all the time, but I have yet to make any shadow boxes. Seeing yours (and Martha's ) I'm inspired to put some things together now.

I've always loved the look of shadow boxes. I'm going to have to fight my sisters for a framed doll that belonged to my great-grandma. It is one of my favorite thing hanging in my mothers home. I'd like to follow your lead and frame some of the precious things I have around my house.

As for the plates. I will show you how I did them. It doesn't require good drawing skills. You could do it. If you don't believe me, I would make you some. Of course the thought of sending you some of my real work scares me. Pictures can hide flaws.

ohhh-you should make a button and put it on your sidebar and have it say "I am way more creative than Martha!" Then, when you make it, let me know cause I want one too! Love your ideas with the jewelry and blow dryer! Too cute! Now, I am off to look at the bed reveal. I am hoping it will make me get out my hot gle gun again! Thanks as always for the great inspiration!

i'm not surprised at all to see these gorgeous sentimental treasures framed. it ALL seems so like you. they are all just beautiful. i just saw a really really modern looking photo, in a modern looking house BUT they had their baby's dress & booties framed front & center. i loved it. it doesn't matter what anyone's style is - these are timeless pieces.
i think like you & your friendship you must offer all your real life friends. you are timeless & classic.

hope all is well at your "relax" house!

p.s. i noticed your framed hair dryer on the "makeover before & after post" in the background. i KNEW there was a story there!!!

I cannot think of a better way to be thrifty than to use what you have! And like you, I am sentimental. I love to be surrounded by things I love. Things that hold meaning. Things that are our family history. I think it passes that importance onto our children.
Fabulous Thrifty Thursday!

Thanks again for sharing your shadow boxes... oh, I homeschool my daughters too. It's a decision I don't regret at all..in fact, it's the best decision I've ever made! Have a great weekend! -April
