31 Days to a Heartfelt Home, Day 2, Sentimental Sunday #39 Dime Toss Dish

Welcome to Sentimental Sunday, my favorite day of the week. The day we all gather together and share what we are sentimental about. It can be anything from an item in your home passed down by a special someone or just a few sweet words about something that has touched your heart this week, the goal is to take a moment and reflect.

This week I am sentimental about that cute little glass dish, yeah the one in the middle there.  It is not an expensive piece but one that has great value to me.  My sweet little Grandmother (my Dad's Mom) won it when she was a kid.  She was at the carnival and played the dime toss game.  She threw her dime and it landed in this cute dish.  She kept it in her hope chest until she met and married my Grandfather and she has used  for all the years since.  Recently she gave it to me and I am so honored to have it to use and to tell the story behind it.  It is important to know the stories of our past and to pass them on to the next generations.

Sentimental Sunday #38, Living Out Your Dream

Welcome to Sentimental Sunday, my favorite day of the week. The day we all gather together and share what we are sentimental about. It can be anything from an item in your home passed down by a special someone or just a few sweet words about something that has touched your heart this week, the goal is to take a moment and reflect.

This week I am sentimental about living out your dreams.
Have you ever been afraid of your dream?  You know the one I am talking about....the one that seems bigger than life.  The dream that most people listen to and then explain how you need a back up plan.  The God sized dream!  This week I got to watch two beautiful people live out their dream, I worked behind the scenes helping on the HGTV pilot for The Lettered Cottage.
 -Squeal-

I know, if you have been living under a rock and do not know who they are do yourself a favor and go get lost on their blog, right after you finish here of course.

I am so thankful that they were brave enough to go for their dream. Because of their bravery, I got to live out a dream of mine. For years, I have sat in front of the TV and said I can do that while watching HGTV and this week I got to DO THAT. I have never had any desire to be in front of the camera but I love working on projects and have always thought it would be cool to be a part of a show. This week, while living out that dream, I could not help but ponder thoughts about each of us having the courage to live out our dreams and who that would in turn allow to live out theirs. The grandness of it all is mind blowing. I love when you can step back and see Gods hand at work and how he had a plan for this moment years before (who am I kidding forever before) now. Layla even found comfort in this blazer (her Grandfather had one like it, but that is her story to tell) that has been my husbands dream and project for years.

Because of him following his passion and dream he got to be apart of their special day on several levels also. So go follow your dream.

The one BIGGER than you have the courage for, the one that requires faith that can move mountains.
God will meet you there and you will not be sorry.

Who knows you might even get to be as silly as the four of us goofing around.

Senitmental Sunday #36, Ceramic Clock

Welcome to Sentimental Sunday, my favorite day of the week. The day we all gather together and share what we are sentimental about. It can be anything from an item in your home passed down by a special someone or just a few sweet words about something that has touched your heart this week, the goal is to take a moment and reflect.

This Sunday I am sentimental about this ceramic clock my grandmother made for me.  It sat on my dresser in my bedroom when I was a girl and I remember looking at it with pride.   I continued to use it in my apartment as a  single woman. The colors and pattern have always been so beautiful and timeless to me.  Once I had my girls it went to their bedroom (they shared a room until recently).  It now lives in Faith's room and I think it is a beautiful reminder of my grandmother and my childhood.

Another part to this story is that my grandmother and my mother both took ceramic classes and made beautiful pieces of art.  Thanks to some dear friends I now have a kiln and ceramic molds.  I can't wait to learn ceramics with my mom and girls.  The idea that something started so long ago in our family is now being passed down to the future generations in the pieces already made and now in the art of making them makes me so happy.  Life happens in such cool ways sometimes and I am in awe of how God works.

PS. We haven't made anything yet. We are waiting on the weather to get cooler before we crank up the million degree kiln.  I will be back to show you what we make as soon as we do.  Until then I am watching You Tube videos learning all I can.  What did we do before You Tube?

Sentimental Sunday # 35, Thimble Collection

Welcome to Sentimental Sunday, my favorite day of the week. The day we all gather together and share what we are sentimental about. It can be anything from an item in your home passed down by a special someone or just a few sweet words about something that has touched your heart this week, the goal is to take a moment and reflect.

Today I am sentimental about my thimble collection, it was my mom's and she passed it to me when she moved.

It is a collection gathered over many years and many people have contributed.

Some were ones used by greatgrandmothers and grandmothers,

others were purchased to bring to mind a place we have been.  The Chesapeake Bay is from the only other place I have lived....we lived there for a few months one year while my dad was working there.

Still others were given as a gift.  I am honored to be the keeper of these small reminders of our family's history.

Sentimental Sunday #34

Welcome to Sentimental Sunday, my favorite day of the week. The day we all gather together and share what we are sentimental about. It can be anything from an item in your home passed down by a special someone or just a few sweet words about something that has touched your heart this week, the goal is to take a moment and reflect.

Today
I have a post that I want to write.....
but it will not come, or to better say it,
too many words come all at once and I can not make them make sense.
This passed week my Best Friend came into town and stayed with us, many words were spoken, stomach's were shaken with laughter and shoulders were soaked with tears.
It was a good week and I am thankful for it.
I am going to choose to tuck the memories deep in my heart and on a day when every word is not tied deep to an emotion I will write....I will write them.  Today I am just going to let my mind race in what was the joy of my past week.

Sentimental Sunday #33, A new direction for my blog

Welcome to Sentimental Sunday, my favorite day of the week. The day we all gather together and share what we are sentimental about. It can be anything from an item in your home passed down by a special someone or just a few sweet words about something that has touched your heart this week, the goal is to take a moment and reflect.

Today
I have decided to be sentimental about this little corner of the online world that I enjoy.
Almost two years ago when I decided to start this blog it was on a whim, what else does one do when then are about to meet Ree in person (read about it here  ), today I cherish this space.
It was fun to write about meeting Ree and Christmas was just around the corner so why not show off my home all dressed up.  Then we were redoing the girls rooms so it was a great place to document the process.

Hubby and I have lived in two house before this one and have done many DIY projects on both but never documented the process, suddenly with this blog we had the perfect place to keep up with all that we do.  I love that we have a place to tell that story and that our grand kids will be able to look back at it. During all of this I seemed to have fallen into the "you must have a niche" to blog trap.  I became a DIY/CRAFT blog.  I enjoy each of these things but they are only a tiny part of our lives.  I want this blog to be a reflection of our whole lives.  I started to realize there needed to be a change when Sentimental Sunday started to be the only post I enjoyed writing because it was something that came naturally to me.  I was starting to find my voice in those post.
Then I started my shop and I loved making items that touched peoples hearts and it started to become clear that I my blog was changing.
I was becoming

The Heartfelt Home

So in a brainstorming session with Gina we/she came up with the new name.  I rushed to buy the .com without thinking through what would change immediately here.  After 2 hours on the phone  with Go Daddy and Enom (those poor guys were wishing they had not been the ones to answer my phone call!) I was finally directing correctly, Gina made me a new header quick so it would make sense and I got busy securing all other social media in this new name and started my mental plan of action for the future of this blog.

So that is where things stand today

Sit Relax and Read
is no longer

The Heartfelt Home

This is the place to see what inspires me and my projects.

So are you asking yourself what all of this means for the future of this blog?  Probably not but I will tell you anyway!
-There will still be plenty of DIY projects because we still have plenty to do.
-Sentimental Sunday will still be here and have a renewed energy behind it, sorry to all of you who I have left hanging the last few weeks.
-I will be sharing about homeschooling and the homeschool class I teach.  I would appreciate it if any of you who homeschool could share some link parties with me, I would love to meet more homeschool bloggers.
-I hope to write about my faith more, this one frightens me because of my inadequacies but all things are possible through Christ who strengthens me.
-I still love to cook and want to be more consistent about sharing recipes and products I love.
-There is also a side of me that I have never talked about on this blog-a secret-
I have a cute little framed piece of paper that says I have permission to do hair in the state of Georgia.  Are you shocked or had you guessed?  The comments and emails I get the most of when there is a picture of me on here is about my hair.  Well.....
guess what ladies?
I am going to start sharing some "hows" with you!
-There will be plenty of crafts
-And don't worry I will also continue to be thrifty because lets face it I am cheap.

So what do you think?
I would love to have your thoughts and which subjects you prefer me to ramble about.

Thanks for supporting me and my family in this online adventure.

Sentimental Sunday #32, Blog Friendship

Welcome to Sentimental Sunday, my favorite day of the week. The day we all gather together and share what we are sentimental about. It can be anything from an item in your home passed down by a special someone or just a few sweet words about something that has touched your heart this week, the goal is to take a moment and reflect.

This week I want to take a moment and capture the fun that was had last week at Gina's.  The whole week was planned around the fact that Gina, Lisa, and I wanted a better way to connect with other bloggers than large conferences.

We wanted a place that was all about fun and building each other up.

 A place where long lasting relationships were forged.

I think we got just what we wanted.

Not only did our friendships grow but we made some new ones.
I had lots of fun getting to know Leslie, and I know our friendship will continue to grow in the future.

and these stole my heart from the moment I met them.

I knew the trip was a success when even my Hubby was having fun.

I was so honored to meet and work with Polly

So honored in fact that when she stubbed her toe....I was her doctor to the rescue.
If you know me, you know I hate blood.....so this proves how much I like her.

Are you impressed by my foot-ice-wrapping skills?
I have my Web MD, ha.
I wish I had a picture of Angie and I together, but we will always have hot glue scars to remember each other with.

The greatest thing about this weekend was knowing that I have friends that are just as goofy as me.

Sentimental Sunday #29, My Country, 'tis of thee

 My country,' tis of thee,

sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing;

land where my fathers died,

land of the pilgrims' pride,

from every mountainside let freedom ring!

 My native country, thee,

land of the noble free, thy name I love;

I love thy rocks and rills,

thy woods and templed hills;

my heart with rapture thrills, like that above.

 Let music swell the breeze,

and ring from all the trees sweet freedom's song;

let mortal tongues awake;

let all that breathe partake;

let rocks their silence break, the sound prolong.

 Our fathers' God, to thee,

author of liberty, to thee we sing;

long may our land be bright

with freedom's holy light;

protect us by thy might, great God, our King.
