Senitmental Sunday #36, Ceramic Clock

Welcome to Sentimental Sunday, my favorite day of the week. The day we all gather together and share what we are sentimental about. It can be anything from an item in your home passed down by a special someone or just a few sweet words about something that has touched your heart this week, the goal is to take a moment and reflect.

This Sunday I am sentimental about this ceramic clock my grandmother made for me.  It sat on my dresser in my bedroom when I was a girl and I remember looking at it with pride.   I continued to use it in my apartment as a  single woman. The colors and pattern have always been so beautiful and timeless to me.  Once I had my girls it went to their bedroom (they shared a room until recently).  It now lives in Faith's room and I think it is a beautiful reminder of my grandmother and my childhood.

Another part to this story is that my grandmother and my mother both took ceramic classes and made beautiful pieces of art.  Thanks to some dear friends I now have a kiln and ceramic molds.  I can't wait to learn ceramics with my mom and girls.  The idea that something started so long ago in our family is now being passed down to the future generations in the pieces already made and now in the art of making them makes me so happy.  Life happens in such cool ways sometimes and I am in awe of how God works.

PS. We haven't made anything yet. We are waiting on the weather to get cooler before we crank up the million degree kiln.  I will be back to show you what we make as soon as we do.  Until then I am watching You Tube videos learning all I can.  What did we do before You Tube?

Sentimental Sunday # 35, Thimble Collection

Welcome to Sentimental Sunday, my favorite day of the week. The day we all gather together and share what we are sentimental about. It can be anything from an item in your home passed down by a special someone or just a few sweet words about something that has touched your heart this week, the goal is to take a moment and reflect.

Today I am sentimental about my thimble collection, it was my mom's and she passed it to me when she moved.

It is a collection gathered over many years and many people have contributed.

Some were ones used by greatgrandmothers and grandmothers,

others were purchased to bring to mind a place we have been.  The Chesapeake Bay is from the only other place I have lived....we lived there for a few months one year while my dad was working there.

Still others were given as a gift.  I am honored to be the keeper of these small reminders of our family's history.

So what are you sentimental about this week?

HOW TO BUILD A TEENAGE GIRLS WARDROBE WITHOUT SPENDING A FORTUNE, PART 4

Well here we are at Part 4 of this fun series, if you missed the other parts you can read Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3.  This past week we stopped in Goodwill for a few minutes and found some great finds.

I am not sure if you can tell from the picture but this skirt is made from the softest suede.

We only found these 3 items but we were also pickier because we have already found so much.  Then we got the most amazing blessing, two different friends passed us down some clothes that they were no longer wearing.  Below is what we were gifted.  Grace and I had so much fun going through the clothes and are very thankful for them.  I do have to say that the girls these clothes came from are big (read older) girls and I have still been stuck with the idea that I have little girls, well let me tell you my eyes were opened.  My girl is no longer little and I am so enjoying the young lady she is becoming but it is going by to fast.

At this point we only have a few very specific items left that we need. We will be looking for them this week and hope to have all of our outfit ready for a Fashion Show next week.

This week we spent $18.00
for a total of $61.50 out of our $150 budget.  Since we were gifted so many nice things we are lowering our budget to $100.

Have you found anything great for a thrifty price lately?

Sentimental Sunday #34

Welcome to Sentimental Sunday, my favorite day of the week. The day we all gather together and share what we are sentimental about. It can be anything from an item in your home passed down by a special someone or just a few sweet words about something that has touched your heart this week, the goal is to take a moment and reflect.

Today
I have a post that I want to write.....
but it will not come, or to better say it,
too many words come all at once and I can not make them make sense.
This passed week my Best Friend came into town and stayed with us, many words were spoken, stomach's were shaken with laughter and shoulders were soaked with tears.
It was a good week and I am thankful for it.
I am going to choose to tuck the memories deep in my heart and on a day when every word is not tied deep to an emotion I will write....I will write them.  Today I am just going to let my mind race in what was the joy of my past week.
